Software Stack → Enterprise & Business Software · figures rebased to Q2 FY2027, reported 2026-08-27

Cloud HCM (HR, payroll, talent, workforce) + Financial Management SaaS + AI (Workday Illuminate) leads 2 businesses in this sub-tier that together are 100% of revenue, so Enterprise & Business Software is effectively the whole company rather than one leg of it.

Reported segments

Workday ($2,649M Q2 FY2027, +12.8% YoY). ONE reportable segment — cloud applications — because the business is managed on a consolidated basis and every service runs on the same platform. The split below is the revenue disaggregation Workday discloses, not an ASC 280 segment split: subscription services 93.3% ($2,471M, +13.5%) and professional services 6.7% ($178M, roughly flat). Investment read

Moat. HCM and financials system-of-record lock-in with 97% gross retention and a $27B total backlog — the employee and finance data model is the switching cost. AI is now measurable inside it rather than promised: AI ARR approaching $500M, agentic new ACV +200% YoY, over 4,000 customers running at least one Workday agent, and AI-attached deals landing roughly 50% larger than traditional upsells.

Bottleneck / pricing power. Moderate-to-strong on the installed base, with a new consumption layer (Flex Credits) that scales with automation depth rather than headcount. That matters because the structural question runs the other way: the historical model priced seats, and if agents reduce enterprise headcount the seat engine erodes. Subscription growth has already stepped down from +16.4% (FY25) to +13.1% (FY26) to a guided ~12-13% (FY27).

Role in the AI stack. The HCM + financials system-of-record layer.
