NAND flash / SSD storage — high-capacity storage for AI data lakes (SanDisk spinoff)
AI exposure 33% — derived from reported segment revenue, not asserted.
Silicon Layer → Memory & Storage ICs · figures rebased to FQ4 FY2026, reported 2026-08-05
Edge (client/OEM devices — PCs, smartphones, embedded) leads 3 businesses in this sub-tier that together are 100% of revenue, so Memory & Storage ICs is effectively the whole company rather than one leg of it.
Sandisk ($20.25B FY2026, +175%; spun off from Western Digital Feb 2025) — pure-play NAND flash/SSD maker. Reports one segment but FQ4 2026 disclosed end-market dollars: Datacenter $2.977B/33% + Edge $5.432B/61% + Consumer $556M/6% — the old Cloud/Client/Consumer estimate is superseded. Primary B1 Memory & Storage ICs (it MAKES NAND). B2 Storage & Server tag (enterprise SSD systems). Datacenter (enterprise SSD for AI data lakes) is the AI-relevant slice — ~12% to ~33% of revenue in one year. $93.9B NBM contracted book at floor pricing across 8 unnamed datacenter/edge customers ($16.5B…
Moat. A capital-barrier oligopoly, not a commodity free-for-all: six NAND suppliers worldwide, no non-Chinese entrant in fifteen years, and Sandisk's bit supply locked into the Flash Ventures JV with Kioxia (Yokkaichi + Kitakami), extended in January 2026 through 2034. BiCS8 is the majority of bit output with BiCS9/10 behind it. What caps the moat is position, not structure — ~13% share, #4-5 in the industry, and fabs it co-owns rather than controls.
Bottleneck / pricing power. Pricing power is contracted, not hoped for: $93.9B of minimum revenue at floor pricing across eight datacenter and edge customers, weighted-average duration over four years, backed by $16.5B of financial guarantees, with >50% of FY2027 and ~2/3 of FY2028 bits committed and bits on allocation beyond CY2027. FQ4 2026 GAAP gross margin was 84.6%. The constraint is the ceiling, not the floor — FQ1 2027 guides 83-85%, flat-to-down, and the variable tranche above the floor is what competitor capacity takes first in 2027-2028.
