Where it sits

Physical Infrastructure → Storage & Server Systems · figures rebased to Q2 FY2027, reported 2026-09-01

Infrastructure Solutions is now Dell's largest business outright at 66.0% of revenue, of which AI-optimised servers alone are 36.8% — $16.1B in Q1 FY2027 against $24.4B of orders and a $51.3B backlog. Placement rule 2 and the AI-value-chain reading now agree, where a quarter earlier they did not: Client Solutions was 51% against Infrastructure's 46%, and Dell needed a documented exception to sit here. The exception has been removed. PCs remain a secondary tag at 33.4%.

Investment read

Moat. Scale, supply chain, enterprise channel and captive financing in servers and PCs — the AI-server vendor that enterprises and neoclouds can actually be financed by. It shows up as volume rather than exclusivity: $51.3B AI-server backlog exiting Q1 FY2027 and $24.4B of AI orders booked in that quarter alone.

Bottleneck / pricing power. ISG operating income rose 225% on 89% revenue growth, so Dell is finally converting AI server volume into margin rather than buying share — the historic worry about this business. CSG operating income grew 42% on 20% revenue growth.
