Integrated water-and-cooling stack for data centers; cooling is the AI-relevant identity post-CoolIT = B2 Thermal & Cooling
Reported segments
- Global Water — 50.4% of revenue
- Global Institutional & Specialty — 36.7% of revenue
- Global Pest Elimination — 8% of revenue
- Global Life Sciences — 5% of revenue
Ecolab ($4,415.4M Q2 2026, +10% YoY). RESTRUCTURED: the 10-Q reports four segments — Global Water 50.4% ($2,223.4M, +12%; Global High-Tech within it grew 29% on data-centre and semiconductor fab water treatment, helped by Ovivo Electronics) = primary B2 Thermal & Cooling; Global Institutional & Specialty 36.7% ($1,620.8M, +5%); Global Pest Elimination 8.0% ($351.1M, +11%); Global Life Sciences 5.0% ($220.1M, +18%, the fastest). Previously modelled as Industrial / Institutional / Pest-and-Healthcare.
How the 8% is built
- Global Water — 50.4% of revenue × 15% AI-driven (disclosed). The Global High-Tech line inside this segment treats water for data centres and semiconductor fabs and grew 29%, but heavy industry, food and paper are the larger part
- Global Institutional & Specialty — 36.7% of revenue × 0% AI-driven (disclosed). Cleaning and sanitising for restaurants, hotels and hospitals
- Global Pest Elimination — 8% of revenue × 0% AI-driven (disclosed). Pest control services
- Global Life Sciences — 5% of revenue × 0% AI-driven (disclosed). Contamination control for pharmaceutical manufacturing
Investment read
Moat. Route density plus proprietary chemistry plus on-site service engineers embedded in customers' water and sanitation loops — the classic Ecolab moat, and the part that is durable. CoolIT (closed Jul 2, 2026) adds chip-contact cooling hardware and makes Ecolab the only vendor able to quote the whole loop, but that leg is one quarter old and contested by hardware natives; the wide rating rests on the installed service base, not on the acquisition.
Bottleneck / pricing power. Strong, demonstrated pricing power in the core: Q2 2026 organic growth of 5% was 4 points price and 1 point volume, with organic operating margin up 40bps to 18.8% and the >20% target for 2027 intact. Water scarcity and mission-critical uptime give the pricing conversation urgency; the integrated-stack bundle is an option on more of it, not yet the source of it.
